Message: The Colour Purple: Part 2- Nick Drury
Having considered an overview of woman in the Bible in part one of talk, this week Nick delves into the story of Lydia in Acts 16. We look at the way this passage and the person of Lydia highlights how unconventional being a Christian is, and that God calls us to live out our faith in ways that challenge society’s norms.

Message: Sundae School - Jamie Fredricks
This week, we had a special family "Get The Summer Started!" service introducing our Holiday Club, "Taste and See"! Many shenanigans ensued, including "Sundae School", where Jamie explored the differences between rest, leisure, holiday and Sabbath. And some sundaes may have been consumed as well!

Message: The Colour Purple: Part 1 - Nick Drury
This week, in light of Lydia’s short story in Acts 16, Nick considered the role women play in the Bible. Women only speak for 1.1% of the scriptures! In light of this, we consider the importance of giving extra care to the passages that speak about women, and how we need to be aware of our own biases in order to embrace those who are on the margins.

Message: Seeing - Alister Williams
How do we look at others? How do we look at ourselves? And how does God look at us? Alister reflects upon all things 'vision', and considers how the act of seeing and looking is foundational to our sense of ourselves and the world. Drawing upon several scriptures he challenges us to be mindful of how the images from our eyes can be influenced and even distorted by the preconceived pictures in our heads.

Message: Cuts & Closures (Jamie Fredricks)
Paul begins his next missionary journey in Acts 16. After seeing how the church wrestled with controversy in the last chapter, Paul’s next actions seem rather confusing! Then we read how the missionaries path seemed to be blocked by God. We explore what might be going on in these verses, and how reflecting on them may bring some helpful insight to us.

Message: You Talking to Me? (Richard Starling)
How should we discern right and wrong, especially relating to other people? Should we judge them? Well, if we do, Jesus says we get what we give out. Condemn and judge? Or give and forgive? Seems obvious… Christians are sometimes labelled as being judgemental - and some are, sadly. Others bring grace and compassion to life. Only God has the authority to judge fairly.
But that doesn’t mean we should ignore or condone, or be gullible. We are to DISCERN wisely, live as HOLY, and ENCOURAGE others. Oh, and by the way, make sure you get the plank out of your eye before you try verbal surgery on others… look at the fruit that a person produces from their heart. (Luke 6 v37-45)
