The Five Ways to Wellbeing

Upon being commissioned into his new role as coordinator of ‘The Haven’ (formerly known as the Wellbeing Project), Nick embarks on making the connection between wellbeing and our faith. We explore how everyone is on the wellbeing ‘spectrum’, and that Jesus has a desire for us to experience a healthy wellbeing. We consider ‘The Five Ways to Wellbeing’ and their connection with the Bible, and how investing in these ways can help develop our own wellbeing and discipleship journeys.

The Parable of the Sower

Sally shares from Luke's version of this famous parable. Often we think about the grain landing on and growing (or failing to grow) on different kinds of soil as describing different groups of people. But as Sally explores, we can each of us respond, or fail to respond to God's word in those ways at different times; Scripture helps to highlight the struggles that we face, but also gives us some solid advice to lead us towards 'fruitfulness'.

A Tale of Two Churches - Act Now!

The first half of Acts Chapter 11 is based in the church in Jerusalem, where Nick highlights how the 'us and them' mentality permeates humankind and much of the Church today. In contrast, we also consider the church in Antioch in the 2nd half of the chapter - a church that does amazing things by keeping in rhythm with God. What can we learn from these two churches about how we can be a Holy Spirit driven community?

Peter Shares the Gospel - Act Now!

Continuing our series in Acts, we look at the second half of Peter’s encounter with Cornelius in Ch10. This gives us an insight into how Peter chooses to ‘share the gospel’: what he does say, and crucially what he doesn’t. Harvest

For our Harvest family service we were visited by Paul from Bognor Foodbank. Also, we looked at the teaching about ‘gleaning’ found in the book of Leviticus, and explored the kind of spirituality that it reveals.

Walls Come Tumbling Down - Act Now!

Chapter 10 of Acts describes Peter's heavenly vision and meeting with Cornelius; a pivotal moment in that book, but also in the history of the early church. However, as Jamie explores, the Bible is a 'living word' and the principles here may also be profoundly important in our understanding of ourselves. We have a tendency to create categories: boxes and walls to divide up our sense of the world. The story here reminds us we should be very cautious before assuming that God is contained by such things.
