Jesus urged his followers to ‘take up their cross’ and follow him, and spoke of ‘denying’ themselves. Is this a program of dismal puritanism, austerity, or even self-hatred? On the contrary, the writer to the Hebrews shows us that the way of Christ takes us beyond the cross to a bigger mission, vision and calling described as ‘Joy’! But what is the biblical idea of 'Joy', and how does it guide each of us towards our purpose and calling?

We consider what the Bible and science has to say about breathing, and the value of doing intentional breathing practices to nurture our spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing. Abi follows this by putting some breathing exercises into action.

In Acts 16 we read how, while in Philippi, Paul and Silas witness God's power to overcome the evils that hold people captive. Not all prisons have bars, and sometimes we can turn a blind eye to the systems that underwrite these evils.
Wrapping up this leg of our ongoing study through Acts, Jamie reflects on how God's miraculous power blossoms from the soil of counter-cultural faith, love and compassion.
