Our series through the book of Acts finds us in Chapter 17 with Paul, temporarily alone in the great city of Athens. What happens next is a textbook example of how to build bridges between the good news message and a very different cultural setting. This week we look at some of the cultural foundations of the Greek world, especially the religious and philosophical situation. And as Jamie explains, although 2000 years have passed, the issues and thinking is remarkably resonant with our own day.

Our assumptions and underlying stories will crucially impact our faith journeys. One simple, common, powerful, but incredibly damaging notion in our culture is the idea that God is somehow, ‘far away’: absent, aloof, remote.
Jamies takes a whistle-stop tour through Scripture to demonstrate the Lie of this concept, instead revealing a God who is constantly moving towards his people, seeking to share intimate relationship and healing, restorative love. Accepting this has important beneficial consequences for mission, worship, prayer, and our self-image & understanding.
