At the start of a New Year it is perhaps natural to look ahead, and make plans or resolutions. Jamie focuses in on the reality that we are always on a journey: always engaged in an experience of progress and process. But here we can take encouragement from the example of Jesus, who himself ‘grew’ and developed to become the man he was born to be. More generally, the New Testament offers a model of of ‘becoming’ rooted in incremental, organic growth, but also in community. Using the example of prophecy, Jamie examines how we can only reach maturity in our lives and giftings if we work together.

We continue our Christmas series, 'Feast', which aims to take another look at all the paraphernalia of Christmas in our western culture. Jamie invites us to consider how the different elements of the season, including (and especially!) those that might seem frustrating and superficial, might instead propel us into worship and celebration... with a little creative thinking! This week he takes a look at decorations - the Christmas tree, the baubles, tinsel, ribbons and paper, and finally whatever is on the 'top of our tree'.

Our Christmas series, ‘Feast’ is really all about celebration and worship! In the Christian calendar, and in life in general, there are certainly seasons for fasting, sorrow, and mourning. But as Jamie explores, this is not the same as the kind of dour, negative… grumpiness that religious people are often thought to embody - especially at Christmastime. Instead, the gospel should lead us to an effervescent, confident HOPE in the possibility of redemption for all things - even the trappings of Christmas that we might find silly, superficial, or tacky.
In this message, Jamie proposes an alternative strategy to find connections between these things and the wonderful truths of following Jesus, rooted in the imminence and presence of God. He offers some simple prayers and meditations so that as we journey through this season, the trappings of Christmas might become inspirations for constant praise and encouragement.
