We continued our new series exploring the book of Genesis, building on last week's introduction to the background of the book. This week we looked at the iconic first stanzas that follow on from “In the beginning…” and started to unpack them in all their richness. The ‘ordering’ Spirit of God interacts with the ‘chaotic’ depths of possibility: An idea that resonates across many spheres of life. Jamie illustrated how these reveal a God who works sympathetically and lovingly with his creation. His power is displayed not in coercive domination, but in ordaining freedom, and calling the Creation into fullness of life and flourishing. It is the power that we see most decisively at the Cross, and in the person of Jesus.
